Hist. any of a number of ancient trails leading from the Pacific Coast into the interior of British Columbia, used by Indians for the trade in oolichan oil and other items.
1879  By the second of the above routes oolachen oil was carried far into the interior; and the old trail from Bella Coola and Fraser River is still known to the inland Indians as the "Grease Trail."
1932  It was an article of trade in great demand along the many "grease trails". . . .
1963  This Grease Trail was so named because along it the Nass tribes carried much oolachan (candlefish) oil or grease to the Upper Skeena River country.
